Crane operation - BM-T700

Various operations were performed at the North Sea using a Liebherr LR1250 crawler crane installed on the BM-T700 platform. The crane was placed onto the Barge Master in one single lift, sea fastened, and tested with a counterweight. Subsequently, the pontoon with the Barge Master was taken to the North Sea where multiple lifts with various loads were executed. With the Barge Master switched "on", the crane hook and load hung perfectly still with respect to an earth fixed reference frame. The lifts were performed in a variety of sea-states and mooring setups, demonstrating the ability of compensating motions in various wave heights and periods.

Due to the unique “on-board lifting” functionality, the crane was able to safely lift the container from the vessel’s deck. This prevents clashes between the load and the vessel and increases safety for deck personnel as well as protecting the load.

The operation successfully proved the practicability of motion compensated installation work, showing compensation percentages of over 95% of the barge movements.
